Rotterdam, May 2025 – The Open Eyes Foundation has published its 2024 Annual Report, detailing a year filled with international engagement, innovative projects, and growing global awareness around albinism and broader issues of discrimination. The foundation, established by Xueli Abbing—UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and international model—continues to advocate for the inclusion and rights of marginalized youth, particularly young people with albinism.
In 2024, the foundation expanded its reach through creative campaigns, educational programs, and high-level international events. One of the highlights of the year was the 10th International Albinism Awareness Day (IAAD), celebrated in Rotterdam with a citywide photo exhibition titled Eyes On Us. Featuring powerful portraits by 13 local photographers and an art event at Erasmus Medical Center, the initiative reached over 60,000 people in-person and over 465,000 through media exposure.
Another key achievement was the completion of The Outlet, a European Solidarity Corps project that gave young people a platform to share personal stories of discrimination. This content will feed into an upcoming E-learning module on discrimination, currently under development.
Founder Xueli Abbing also represented the foundation at major UNESCO events, including the Global Forum Against Racism and the Inclusive Schools’ Forum. Through speeches and panel participation, she emphasized the urgent need for youth engagement and inclusive education.
“Our mission to create a more inclusive society starts with empowering young people,” said Abbing. “The response we’ve received this year has been incredibly inspiring, and we’re more committed than ever to continue this work.”
With a growing international network and upcoming partnerships in Africa and Asia, the foundation is set to deepen its impact in 2025 through new projects, scholarships, and awareness campaigns.
