On June 13, 2024, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of International Albinism Awareness Day, a day dedicated to raising global awareness about albinism and the unique challenges faced by individuals with this condition. This UN-established day seeks to dispel myths and educate the public about albinism, which involves a genetic lack of pigment and often includes visual impairment. Through events like the “Eyes on Me” exhibition in Rotterdam, we aim to foster understanding, combat discrimination, and promote the inclusion of people with albinism in all aspects of society.
The “Eyes on Me” exhibition, part of the International Albinism Awareness Day celebrations, is on display from June 12 to July 5, 2024, at Erasmus MC and Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam.
Organized by the Open Eyes Foundation, with artistic direction from Margi Geerlinks and Katinka Lampe, this exhibition features portraits and artworks by renowned artists and photographers such as Ragnadóttir, Sebastian Haquin, and Jeroen Allart. The showcased models, including Adele, Hugo, and Xueli, highlight the beauty and diversity of individuals with albinism, challenging misconceptions and promoting awareness. The exhibition’s production and graphic design are curated by Stang Gubbels and Anneke van der Stelt, promising a visually impactful and thought-provoking experience.
